Brand Strategy, Identity & Messaging

Clarity Starts with a Strong Brand

A brand is more than a logo — it’s how an organisation shows up, earns trust, and makes sense of complex ideas. We create brands and narratives that bring clarity to science, research, and purpose-driven work, helping people understand what matters and why — quickly.

What we do

We help organisations define who they are, what they stand for, and how they communicate — clearly and consistently.

In regulated, technical, or high-stakes environments, branding and narrative aren’t about decoration — they’re about clarity, trust, and alignment.

Why choose OSP as your creative partner

We start by getting under the skin of your organisation, your audiences and the context you operate in, using structured brand and narrative workshops to clarify purpose, priorities and positioning. With experience across healthcare, life sciences, STEM, society and sustainability, we understand how different audiences engage with complex information — from clinicians and researchers to investors, policymakers and the public. We use that insight to create brand identities and narratives that feel credible, relevant and appropriate for the people you need to reach.

Our work turns complex information into structured identities and stories that teams can use confidently, audiences can grasp quickly, and organisations can build on over time.

What this means for you:

  • A clear, evidence-led brand strategy rooted in real audience insight
  • Brand identities and narratives that support understanding and trust
  • Messaging that works across teams, channels and markets
  • Confidence in accuracy, governance and regulatory context
  • A brand foundation that scales as your organisation grows

FAQs

What will we actually receive at the end of a branding project?

Deliverables are shaped around what your teams need to use, not a fixed branding package. They might include positioning, value proposition, messaging architecture, visual identity, tone of voice, brand guidelines, templates and launch assets. We’ll rationalise the list so you are not paying for documents or assets that will sit unused.

How long does a brand strategy or identity project usually take?

Timing depends on the scope, stakeholder availability and approval process. A focused messaging or identity refresh may take weeks, while a broader strategy and rebrand can take several months. We agree the critical decisions and review stages upfront so the project moves at the pace the organisation can realistically support.

Can you work with an established global brand while developing local communications?

Yes. We are used to working within existing corporate identities and adapting communications for specific markets, audiences or business units. We can identify where there is flexibility, where global rules need to be protected and how to create something locally relevant without fragmenting the wider brand.

Can you create brand guidelines that are easy for internal teams to use?

Yes. We create guidelines around the level of control and support your organisation needs. That can include messaging, tone of voice, identity rules, templates, examples and digital assets. We focus on making the system usable, because guidelines only protect consistency if people can understand and apply them.

How do you make sure a new brand works in the real world?

We test the thinking against the places the brand actually has to perform: websites, presentations, campaigns, events, social content, sales materials and internal communications. That helps expose gaps before guidelines are finalised and produces a system that is practical for everyday teams, not just attractive in a brand presentation.

Can you refresh our visual identity without changing our logo?

Yes. A brand can often be made much more distinctive and usable through typography, colour, imagery, layout, motion, illustration and clearer design principles without replacing the logo. We’ll assess what is working, what is limiting the brand and how much change your audiences and internal teams actually need.

Do we need research before starting a brand project?

Not always. We first review what evidence already exists: customer insight, stakeholder interviews, market research, sales feedback and previous strategy work. If there are genuine knowledge gaps, we can recommend focused research. We would rather use existing evidence intelligently than commission research simply because it is part of a standard branding process.

How do you develop brand messaging for complex or technical organisations?

We work from the audience backwards, identifying what they need to understand and what evidence supports the message. With 30 years’ experience communicating complex subjects, we are comfortable simplifying technical information without stripping out the substance. The aim is clear, credible language rather than generic brand statements.

Can you help us clarify our brand positioning and value proposition?

Yes. We can help define what you stand for, who you are for, why you are different and how that should be expressed. We combine stakeholder input, existing evidence and competitive context, then turn the thinking into practical positioning and messaging your teams can actually use.

How do you know whether we need a rebrand or just a brand refresh?

We start by diagnosing the problem. If the strategy and positioning are still right, a focused refresh to identity, messaging or guidelines may be more useful than a full rebrand. If the business, audience or proposition has fundamentally changed, deeper work may be needed. We’ll challenge the scope so you invest where change will have the greatest effect.
